Cappadocia (Cappadocia), 60 million years ago; Erciyes, Hasandagi and Güllüdağ sprayed by the lava and ashes of soft layers of millions of years of rain and wind has emerged by the erosion.
In the Cappadocia region, as a result of erosion, hats, cones, columns, pointed rocky and mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys were formed. Fairy chimneys, most in Turkey, Avanos, Urgup and Uchisar triangle, is located around the valley in Kayseri and Nevsehir Chad town of Plaka.
In the historical process, people carved houses, churches and monasteries inside these fairy chimneys and decorated them with frescoes and carried the traces of thousands of years of civilizations to our day. The history of Cappadocia, where human settlements date back to the Paleolithic Period, began with the Hittites. Cappadocia has been one of the important intersections of the Silk Road and has a commercial and social bridge between countries.
Goreme National Park and Cappadocia were registered as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1985.
