Ulu Mosque located in Cizre district of Sirnak province. In the period of Umar, in 639, it was converted from an old church into a mosque. It was repaired during the Abbasid period. The entrance gate is made of iron and was taken to Topkapı Palace Museum in 1983. The dragon figurative door knocker of the Great Mosque of Cizre was exhibited in the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts in 1964. The other arm of the door knocker was previously abducted at the Berlin Museum.
Cizre Ulu Mosque has two principal dragon figures on the front and left sides of the front door. XI.-XIII. A similar number of animal depictions, dragon and snake figures were used in the 19th century Anatolian Seljuk art. Dragon figures also have a special place in Islamic art. In the Middle Ages Islamic world, it was conceived as a guard that protects both the doorknob and the structure from all kinds of evil.
The vase is made of hand-made glass and all of the relief patterns on it are hand-carved and decorated with gold and antiquated paint.
