The sword, has been regarded as the representative of heroism, independence and power for centuries, has been carried by nobles, ruled soldiers and commanders in the East as well as in the West. Various sources talk about the Turks being the most famous swordsmen and their skill in making swords.
It is known that the Ottoman sword masters made swords in the species called ticani, moorish, zivziki, tirazi. Unlike flat swords, which are heavy and based more on the wrist, in the curved swords the movement of the wrist is important . Using such curved swords would require special training and craftsmanship.
The sword wearing ceremonies held on the throne of the sultans were the most indispensable of the Ottoman palace traditions.
The sword was a meaningful gift besides being a weapon. It was presented as a symbol to those who were given property and military authority by the rulers by running gold and silver sacrifices of victory and happiness wishes.
Kahraman Cam Kılıç, exhibited in the Topkapı Palace,was designed by inspiration of Selim's sword. The first three verses of Surat Al-Fath are included in the name of the glass brick.
Kahraman Cam Kılıç is shaped by hand. The patterns on it are decorated with 24 carat gold and antique paints. The piece of metal is made from brass material.
